Work Permit

Minors under 16 years old

Maine state labor laws do not allow minors under the age of 16 to start work until a work permit has been issued.

Minors under 16 years old must obtain a work permit before beginning a job. (includes home-schoolers.)
They must get a new permit every time they begin a new job until they reach 16 years old, even if they work for their parents.
1.  Fill out your Work Permit Form.
2.  Take the form to your school superintendent's office.
3.  After you received the "Approved" stamp, please give us a copy of the form.
